Does the irony of Jesus’ birth, in a rocky hollow stable, in a tiny insignificant village on the outskirts of Jerusalem change the way we live out our faith today? Does it matter that the Word (Jesus) became flesh in an uncomfortable and marginal village or that Jesus’ family owned neither the place where he was born, nor the tomb where his body was laid? You Hear What I Hear?
It mattered to some fisherman, to a centurion, to Zacchaeus, to the Samaritan woman at the well, to the thief hanging on the cross next to Jesus, plus many others. It matters to us, today. God still works today, transforming us as we encounter Jesus again and again.
During the next 7 weeks, (starting on January 3) in our times of worship, we will be considering together some of these encounters with Jesus. And during the Adult Discovery Hour, (starting January 10) we will give additional time to these encounters by posing questions, and seeking to find our place and determining our response. |
